1.1 This test method covers the relative resistance to vented water-tree growth in solid non-black thermoplastic or crosslinked electrical insulating materials, especially those materials used to insulate medium-voltage power cables. The water-tree is initiated and vented from the tip of a controlled conical defect under a high electric field at specific wet test conditions. The treed specimen is stained and sliced for tree measurement under a microscope.
