Description of Driving Event:

Space shuttle system design necessitated clearance and weight constraints, which in many cases, made SSME access limited. Workarounds and temporary structures have been utilized by maintenance personnel with some success. However, there is still inadequate access to the engine area after landing for installing rain protection plugs or the ferry flight set. Injury to personnel or damage to equipment can occur as the result of actions required to perform post flight maintenance and ferry flight set installation operations.
