DOCUMENT SCOPE

This document defines the functional requirements for the Mode S ADLP, and describes the aeronautical architecture within which the Mode S ADLP will operate. It does not define data link applications that will be supported by Mode S and other data links.

Chapter 1 provides an overview of the data communication environment in which the Mode S Aircraft Data Link Processor is expected to operate, and the role that the Mode S ADLP plays within this environment.

Chapter 2 contains general design specifications.

Chapter 3 provides minimum performance specification for a Mode S Aircraft Data Link Processor, defining performance under standard operating conditions.

Chapter 4 prescribes the environmental test conditions which provide a laboratory means of determining the overall performance characteristics of the equipment under conditions representative of those which may be encountered in actual operations. Chapters describes recommended functional test procedures for demonstrating compliance with Chapters 3 and 4.

Chapter 6 summarises the requirements for installed equipment performance.

DOCUMENT PURPOSE

This document sets forth minimum operational performance standards for the Mode S Aircraft Data Link Processor (ADLP). The ADLP provides a standard communication service through which avionics application processors may exchange data with ground-based application processors via the Mode S transponder. Compliance with these standards is required to assure that the Mode S ADLP functions will be performed satisfactorily under normal operating conditions. Incorporated within these standards are system characteristics that will facilitate the design and implementation of the Mode S ADLP.
