Abstract:

As part of the Exploration Systems Mission Directorates (HQ Code T)Lessons Learned Project, Ames Research Center has compiled the results of ongoing Lessons Learned interviews and a Lessons Learned Workshop held on July 28, 2004.

Ames conducts Lessons Learned (LL) interviews as a normal part of the work process at the Center. Because of the Exploration Systems Mission Directorates Lessons Learned Project, in the past few months these efforts have been stepped up, and focused on Ames projects and missions relating to Exploration Systems. A series of one-on-one interviews was conducted with senior engineers and project mangers having experience in a multitude of R&D flight projects. This activity resulted in over four dozen LL that were used to establish twelve themes. In addition to the interviews, a LL workshop was held on July 28, 2004, that included a distinguished panel of speakers, and group discussions. Output from the workshop was used to further develop each theme.
