Practice:
Use the noise or vibration created by mechanical equipment to determine the actual condition of the equipment. Vibration analysis can be used as a nondestructive method for detecting incipient problems in rotating machinery such as imbalance, misalignment, and damaged or worn components and thereby prevent catastrophic failures from occurring. Vibration analysis also can be used for determining what maintenance actions are necessary for a piece of rotating machinery and the frequency of those actions.
