Abstract:

During assembly of the Fluids and Combustion Facility by Northrop Grumman Information Technology at the Glenn Research Center, it was found that numerous aluminum components that were Electroless Nickel Plated to SAE-AMS-C-26074, Class 4, Grade A, by a specific supplier's subcontractor experienced peeling and flaking. This resulted in significant rework and schedule delays. Due to the defective plating, there is a potential for airborne conductive contaminants thus generating a hazardous condition on the ISS.
