Description of Driving Event:

A loose metal clip inside of a sealed battery box appeared to cause a short that caused excessive heat to build in the NiCd batteries and in turn cause additional shorts between the individual cells. These secondary shorts caused a runaway condition that could not be stopped until the battery voltage was drained.
