scope:
This International Standard applies to systems and parts thereof, with the main purpose of converting power, including products, that include power semiconductor converters (PSC), with a rated system voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c. This International Standard: - establishes a common terminology for safety aspects relating to power semiconductor converter systems (PSCS) - establishes requirements for the coordination of safety aspects of interrelated parts within a PSCS; - establishes a common basis for safety requirements for the PSC portion of products that contain PSC; - specifies requirements to reduce risks of fire, electric shock, thermal and energy hazards and other safety issues, during use and operation and, where specifically stated, during service and maintenance; - specifies requirements to reduce such risks with respect to pluggable and permanently connected equipment, whether it consists of a system of interconnected units or independent units, subject to installing, operating and maintaining the equipment in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. This International Standard is intended to be used: - for reference by product standards or, - as minimum requirements for the safety aspects of PSCS in apparatus for which no product standard exists. For products already covered by product standards those product standards apply. This International Standard does not cover functional safety aspects. Product commitees should provide requirements for functional safety related to their application.
