Abstract:
Galileo and Deep Space 1 failures during ground test and integration damaged power subsystem modules, demonstrating the importance of an adequate supply of these spares. Since power subsystem modules are particularly susceptible to damage during ground test, project sparing policy -- even for low cost missions-- should allow for unplanned consumption of spacecraft power subsystem modules.
