Abstract:

On December 3, 2002 a "close call" involving a B52B aircraft, NASA 008, occurred as it was under going pre-flight for a mission the following day. During the preflight, a gaseous nitrogen servicing hose was pressurized to approximately 5200 psi without the servicing end connected to the aircraft. The hose end rose up and struck the aircraft numerous times, puncturing the upper surface of the right flap in two places. The flow valve was shut off when the hose became lodged under a servicing cart tire. No one was injured.
