This standard covers the gas and arc welding of butt and fillet and socket welds in piping used in the compression, pumping, and transmission of crude petroleum, petroleum products and fuel gases, and to distribution systems where applicable. The welding may be done by shielded metal-arc welding, submerged arc welding, gas tungsten-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, or oxy-acety-lene welding process using a manual, semi-automatic, or automatic welding technique or combination of these techniques. The welds may be produced by position welding or roll welding or by a combination of position welding and roll welding.
It also covers the standards of acceptability to be applied to production welds tested to destruction or inspected by radiography. It includes the procedure for radiographic inspection.
It is intended that all work performed in accordance with this standards shall meet or exceed the requiredments of this standard.
