General

The basic Microwave Landing System (MLS) comprises approach azimuth. Approach elevation and ranging functions which provide continuous and accurate three dimensional position information within a wide coverage volume. It also includes a ground to air data broadcast channel for station identification, refinement of position computations and to identify site specific operationally related parameters. Expanded configurations of MLS can also provide back azimuth functions. Equipment designed to meet this specification will conform as a minimum to the requirements of paragraph 3.11 of ICAO Annex 10.
