OUTLINE OF INVESTIGATION FOR ELECTRIC UTILITY METERS
|Publication Date:||3 May 2010|
These requirements cover electric utility meters which measure, monitor, record, transmit, or receive electrical energy generation or consumption information. Monitored parameters may include voltage, current, power, apparent power, reactive power, power factor, energy, kW-hours, varhours, and time of use.
Meters covered by this outline of investigation may be provided with one or two-way communication, by means of power line carrier signals, telephone, cable, wireless communication, or other methods.
These meters may additionally provide signals for the control of electrical loads or electrical power generation equipment in response to signals received from the utility or local communication networks.
These requirements cover socket mounted plug-in (Type S) utility meters, and non-socket mounted, bottom connected (Type A) utility meters, intended for installation in ordinary (non-classified) locations under the exclusive control of the utility. These requirements also cover Type A and Type S meters that are not intended for the exclusive control of the serving utility.
These requirements do not cover equipment intended as test equipment or equipment intended to make measurements for analysis in a laboratory setting.
These requirements do not cover equipment intended for installation in panelboards other than equipment intended to mount into a meter socket that is integral to a panelboard.
