This Technical Report describes measurement techniques used for the evaluation of the tribological performance of sliding contacts on a scale from a few nanometres (nm) to 10 microns (μm). Procedures are described for carrying out such measurements, while guidance is also given on the effect of measurement parameters on the test results. This Technical Report covers techniques where the applied load is between 100 μN and 100 mN. This Technical Report does not cover existing scanning probe microscopy techniques such as atomic or frictional force microscopy.
