The scope of this data sheet is limited to the possibility of igniting Class I, Group D vapors by a conventional Bell system (or equivalent) telephone set. Group D vapors, as defined in Article 500 of the National Electrical Code, include gasoline, hexane, benzene, butane, propane, alcohol, acetone, lacquer solvent and natural gas. The scope does not include telephone sets that are fitted with auxiliaries such as lights, relays, buzzers or remote sounding horns and signals.
