INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this document is to specify Minimum Performance Requirements for low-range radio altimeters. The term radio altimeter is intended to cover all types of altimeters which operate by emitting radio frequency energy in such a manner that it is reflected from the below the aircraft back to an associated receiver whatever the characteristics of the modulation pattern of that energy may be.

The Minimum Performance Requirements specified herein are designed to ensure that aircraft equipment certified in accordance with them will be compatible with the relevant ICAO standards and recommended practices. (1)

Additionally, environmental test requirements have been specified in respect of those parameters which experience has shown to he susceptible to the effects of the environment (climatic condition, vibration, supply voltage variation, etc.).

(1) All mandatory clauses will be invariably denoted by the word "shall".
