scope:
This part of ISO 24253 specifies field measurements to determine the quantity of spray, and its variation in a plane surface area, distributed by field crop sprayers used to apply plant protecting products (PPP) to arable and vegetable crops. It also specifies a procedure to quantify the intended and the realised distribution. This part of ISO 24253 allows flexibility in the arrangement of field tests, but specifies standardized measurement procedures that are useful to compare the results from different field experiments or laboratory test, like horizontal patternator as given in ISO 5682. It does not deal with the deposition of spray outside the treatment zone, in crop canopy nor that lost as spray drift. However, the combination of this part of ISO 24253 with the protocol for field measurements of spray drift as given in ISO 22866 may result in a good evaluation of spray mass balance in arable field (boom) spraying. On the other hand, its combination with the measuring of sprayer boom movements in the field (see ISO 14131) can also be used to evaluate the spray deposit and its variation in the field as a result of the boom movement driving a conditioned (see ISO 22763) or a field track. Spray distribution from boom sprayers is merely affected by nozzle type, boom height, boom steadiness, sprayer speed and meteorological conditions. These dynamic factors can all be elements of a test to determine the quantity and the variation in spray deposit.
