This guideline specifies requirements for construction and performance of residential sprinklers and their rosettes which are operated by a change of state of an element or bursting of a glass bulb under the influence of heat, for use in automatic residential sprinkler systems conforming to INSTA 900-1, Design, installation and maintenance. Test methods and recommended test schedule for type approval testing are also given. The requirements in this guideline are not intended to restrict the application of representative fire and other tests for special sprinklers, as referenced in EN 12845 that are intended to provide protection for specific fire hazards. A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this guideline, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this guideline. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this guideline does not comply with this guideline. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
