Organization: UL
Publication Date: 30 September 2005
Status: inactive
Page Count: 150
scope:

These requirements cover refrigerant recovery and recycling equipment to be employed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

These requirements apply to equipment intended for indoor or outdoor use or both.

These requirements do not cover equipment rated more than 600 volts or employing a universal motor rated more than 250 volts or intended for installation and use in a hazardous (classified) location.

Refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment intended for use with commercial refrigerant systems, other than automotive, is judged on the basis of compliance with the requirements in this standard, insofar as they are applicable, and further examination and test to determine whether the equipment is acceptable for the purpose.

These requirements cover an evaluation to determine that automotive refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment recovers and, recycles Refrigerant R12 to SAE J1991, Standard of Purity for Use in Mobile Air-Conditioning Systems. This equipment is intended to operate according to SAE J1990, Extraction and Recycle Equipment for Mobile Automotive Air-Conditioning Systems.

These requirements cover an evaluation to determine that automotive refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment recovers and recycles Refrigerant R134a to SAE J2099, Standard of Purity for Recycled HFC-134a for Use in Mobile Air-Conditioning Systems. This equipment is intended to operate to SAE J2210, HFC-134a Recycling Equipment for Mobile Air-Conditioning Systems.

These requirements cover an evaluation to determine that the equipment operate to the standard SAE J2209, CFC-12 (R-12) Extraction Equipment for Mobile Automotive Air-Conditioning Systems.

Extraction and recovery/recycling equipment evaluated to the above SAE specs must also be supplied with hoses that comply with the requirements in SAE J2196, Service Hose for Automotive Air Conditioning.

These requirements contain an investigation to determine that automotive recycling equipment intended for use with both R12 and R134a in a common refrigerant circuit does not cross contaminate refrigerant above 0.5 percent when used under normal operating conditions.

These requirements cover an evaluation to determine that the equipment operates to SAE J1732, HFC-134a (R134A) Extraction Equipment for Mobile Automotive Air-Conditioning Systems.
