scope:
This is a test method for evaluating the ability of a paint (or paint system) to protect a substrate from corrosion upon exposure to a salt spray or cyclic corrosion* test.
*Cyclic corrosion tests, such as SAE J2334, which use a combination of wet and dry cycles, are required instead of salt spray when testing substrates that utilize both paint and a metallic coating, typically zinc (galvanized) or aluminum (aluminized), for protection against corrosion.
