This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This European Standard specifies safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of pedestrian controlled walk-behind mains operated scarifiers and aerators which are designed for re-generating lawns by, for instance, combing out grass, thatch and moss or cutting vertically into the lawn face using tines which rotate about a horizontal axis. This standard applies in conjunction with EN 60335-1. This standard does not apply to non-powered scarifiers and aerators, battery powered scarifiers and aerators, vertical axis scarifiers and aerators or those aerators which cut into the soil by means of a reciprocating motion and ride-on machines. This standard does not apply to - lawnmowers (EN 60335-2-77); - lawn trimmers (EN 60335-2-91); - lawn edge trimmers (EN 60335-2-91); - lawn edgers, flail mowers, sickle-bar mowers or agricultural mowers. This document is not applicable to aerators/scarifiers which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by machines that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account - persons (including children) whose - physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or - lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the machine safely without supervision or instruction; - children playing with the machine. NOTE Combustion engine machines are covered by EN 13684.
