FOREWORD:
(a) This Code was prepared by the Special Committee on the Standardization of Oil Field Boilers, appointed by the Board of Directors of the American Petroleum Institute
(b) This Committee has adopted complete specifications on Locomotive Type Boilers (A.P.I. Stds. No.2). The specification is complete, and covers material, workmanship, sizes and working pressure. It is urged that this specification be used in purchasing locomotive type boilers for oil field use. No standards were adopted on horizontal. return tubular boilers as an analysis showed that this type boiler was used in oil field work in only one district, and that its use in that district was diminishing.
(c) The Committee, in preparing this Code, has endeavored to formulate rules for the installation, operation, and care of the boilers which will give the most satisfactory operation. The committee has endeavored to keep in mind, that simplicity, flexibility, safety, and salvage value are necessary in Oil Field Boiler Work.
(d) This Code applies to Horizontal Return Tubular and Locomotive or Firebox Type Boilers.
