API MANUAL 1506
Service Station Management "CONVERTING SERVICE TO PROFIT"
|Publication Date:||1 October 1954|
Because efficient, dependable service station management is essential to the welfare of the public and of the whole petroleum industry, the Personnel Training Committee, Division of Marketing, API, has prepared this handbook on Service Station Management.
It is addressed chiefly to independent service station proprietors who are in earnest about making for themselves successful careers in the business of retail petroleum marketing. They will find the handbook stimulating and useful. In addition, it provides sound, basic material for training courses and programs in the industry and in educational institutions.
The Committee has prepared the handbook in response to requests from many groups in the oil industry, especially the service station proprietors themselves. Many leading service station proprietors have shared in planning it. They have given generously of their good counsel, the fruit of long and highly successful experience in service station operation.
The motorist also has had a share in making this booklet. Numerous surveys have been conducted recently to find out what the motoring public likes and dislikes about service stations. The findings of these surveys have been used extensively in the preparation of the handbook.
It is the Committee's earnest desire that the publication of "Service Station Management" will contribute to better service to the public and greater profit and prestige to the nation's 200,000 service station proprietors.
