scope:

This document provides guidance to those implementing the use of QoS metrics for Linear (broadcast) IPTV, as defined in ATIS-0800008 [4], including applications of testing and monitoring. There is also some guidance for using fault codes for IPTV as defined in ATIS-0800028 [8] and ATIS-0800032 [10], as well as some guidance for using IPTV QoE indicators.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to the industry for monitoring and testing IPTV services, and to show how to use ATIS IIF standard IPTV QoS metrics.

This document provides the following guidance:

• Delineation of the different quality layers and associated metrics that may be measured at the various points in the IPTV service chain and network.

• Descriptions and flow-charts of test scripts for some common IPTV trouble types, showing how to use ATIS IIF QoS metrics for testing and fault isolation.

• Descriptions of applicable IPTV performance monitoring methodologies, including monitoring profiles using different sets of QoS metrics, such as a set of metrics reportable at a particular measurement point.
