BRE - SPECIFYING LED LIGHTING

Organization: BRE
Publication Date: 1 September 2010
Page Count: 8
scope:

INTRODUCTION

Solid-state lighting using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is set to radically alter the profile of the lighting industry, and has the potential to deliver substantial energy savings. A US study has predicted that, by 2027, solid-state lighting will constitute nearly half the lighting market and result in 37% energy savings compared with using conventional light sources.

LEDs vary in their properties: their light output and colour quality can vary substantially between manufacturers, and sometimes in different ranges from the same manufacturer. To ensure that LED lighting meets the requirements of the particular application, careful specification is needed.
