This specification covers the requirements for three-phase, alternating current (AC) motors for shipboard use in frame sizes not less than 182.
Classification. Motors furnished in accordance with this specification have the following services as specified (see 6.2):
a. Service A - Heavy-duty, high impact, shock-resistant motors for driven auxiliaries including propulsion which are essential to the military effectiveness of a ship.
b. Service C - Commercial marine motors for driven auxiliaries which are not essential to the military effectiveness of a ship.
intended Use:
AC, 60-hertz, integral-hp motors conforming to this specification are intended for use with driven auxiliaries on board Naval ships.
