scope:

PURPOSE

The aim of this manual is to promote uniformity not implementation of the technical procedures of Annex 16-Environmental Protection, Volume I - Aircraft Noise and to provide guidance to certificating authorities and applicants regarding the intended meaning and stringency of the Standards in the current edition of the Annex and the specific procedures that are deemed acceptable in demonstrating compliance with those Standards.

This manual provides guidance material relating to the requirements of Appendices 2, 3, 4 and 6 of the Annex as appropriate. Those appendices describe the noise evaluation methods for compliance with the corresponding chapters of the Annex for jet aeroplanes, propeller-driven heavy and light aeroplanes, and helicopters.
