This Standard specifies the general rules of lighting design standard and lighting requirements to provide people with lighting, principally, artificial lighting, under which they can engage in various activities with safety, easiness and comfort. Lighting for emergency is not included in this Standard.

NOTE 1 This Standard is not concerned with specifying designs of lighting systems and technologies to optimize a specific lighting environment.

Further, if any requirements in this Standard overlap with those of the individual standards, the requirements in the individual standards shall take precedence.

NOTE 2 For methods of designing the lighting systems and technologies to optimize a specific visual environment, related Guides and Reports of the International Commission on Illumination (Commision Internationale de l'Eclairage, hereafter referred to as "CIE"), or standards of Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan should be referred to.
