Various kinds of AIDC media has been developed and used in the market. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one of the new media in this area. Linear bar code and two-dimensional symbols has been using as AIDC media for a long time and ISO/IEC 15434 was a standard for syntax for these AIDC media. ISO/IEC 15961 and ISO/IEC 15962 are developed as an encoding rule for RFID. Many users have utilized linear bar code and two-dimensional symbols for the item identification. Recently many kinds of RFID technology have been developed and users who want to utilize the RFID transponder have to consider the compatibility with linear bar code and two-dimensional symbols in the system. For many of the user, it is not easy to understand how to write and read their data to each type of AIDC media, which they want to use in their application because of the growing diversity and complexity of AIDC media, especially in RFID, in the market. This document intends to provide guidance of how to write and read the necessary data to each AIDC media (linear bar code and two-dimensional symbols, RFID transponder or other AIDC media) on the use in the supply chain.
