Purpose.

This procedure was developed to evaluate the performance of the bonded friction material on a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) under standard conditions of temperature and pressure. This assessment describes procedures for Torque Converter (TC) only testing. The TC is directly connected to input and output electric dynamometers outside of the transmission. The procedures described in this standard are not intended for system level testing. Reference the appropriate system procedure for transmission TCC friction material performance.

Applicability.

The results of this component test provide baseline comparisons of the performance of the friction interface between the TCC friction material, transmission fluid, and reaction surface. This subsequently provides information to evaluate changes to the friction material and/or transmission fluid. Further, information from this test is necessary as a subset of powertrain calibration.
