The document applies in all circumstances to any individual working for Maintenance when they are engaged in the management of those assets which are considered to be critical and are the responsibility of Route Businesses.

This procedure mandates the escalation process for managing the repeat failure of designated critical assets within a Route Delivery Unit. The objective is to manage repeat failures of designated critical assets to resolve their performance to:

• improve the overall performance of components specified, designed, installed and operated;

• improve maintenance and faulting effectiveness;

• establish the root causes of failures, particularly those that are reported as a general system failure or within a given track mileage; and

• establish and reaffirm the controls required to prevent repeat failures and minimisation of Schedule 8 payments.
