This Standard specifies a set of graphical symbols conventionally used for marking of distribution packages in their physical distribution chain to convey handling instructions. The graphical symbols should be used only when necessary.

This Standard is applicable to packages containing any kind of goods, but does not incl ude instructions specific to handling of dangerous goods.

NOTE The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 780: 2015 Packaging-Distribution packaging-Graphical symbols for handling and storage of packages (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
