FOREWORD

The Model Form of Unit Operating Agreement and its companion Model Form of Unit Agreement are designed for use in oil or condensate fields where development of the productive area is essentially complete. Their purpose is to accomplish voluntary unitization in order to conduct some form of pressure maintenance or secondary-recovery operation that will increase ultimate recovery.

Users are cautioned that these forms must be adapted to meet specific conditions in and to the area being unitized. To meet conditions that exist in some fields, or to meet requirements of different states, some alternate paragraphs are contained in the supplements at the end of the model forms. Whenever the notation "(See Supplement)" appears beside an article heading, refer to the Supplement for suggested alternate sections.

The model forms have been drafted by the Subcommittee on Unitization (of the API Steering Committee on Production Practice) composed of operating and legal representatives from all producing areas of the United States.
