The ALERT C protocol covers event-orientated driver information messages. Provision is also made for the subsequent definition of other applications, such as status-orientated route guidance information, AM broadcast data systems, the pan-European digital cellular radio (GSM) system, and digital audio broadcasting (DAB). Future extensions of ALERT C Protocol will be undertaken by means of a system of continued liaison between EBU and ECMT, to permit an orderly evolution of the standard in response to needs agreed at a European level.
