The standard defines four levels of expertise from entry level to Senior Technician in describing a career path for those individuals desiring employment in this field. It establishes knowledge and skill requirements for each level and the testing requirements necessary to attain each certification. The ANSI/NETA Standard for Certification of Electrical Testing Technicians was developed to ensure that those individuals performing electrical tests are competent not only to perform the tests but are also able to evaluate the results and provide an assessment of the condition of the electrical equipment and the system as a whole.

This document is valuable to electrical testing firms and personnel, as well as inspection authorities, architects and engineers, insurance agencies, and anyone wishing to assure that the personnel testing their power equipment is qualified for the task at hand.
