Purpose:
This issuance, in accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5124.02, implements the policy in DoD Instruction (DoDI) 6025.18, assigns responsibilities, and provides procedures for:
• DoD compliance with the privacy regulations adopted under HIPAA, Public Law 104-191, at:
o Part 160 and Part 164, Subpart E of Title 45, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) (also known and referred to in this issuance as the "HIPAA Privacy Rule").
o Part 160 and Part 164, Subpart D of Title 45, CFR (also known and referred to in this issuance as the "HIPAA Breach Rule").
• Integration of HIPAA compliance with related information privacy and security requirements, health information technology development, and associated procurement activities.
