scope:

This module describes the business process to manage earthworks during A/EW, which includes prolonged dry periods by:

a) selecting earthworks (or sections of lines) for inclusion into the Integrated Weather Management Plan (IWMP);

b) identifying the actions to be taken during weather events to maintain levels of safety and performance;

c) developing, reviewing and updating earthwork assets contained within the relevant sections of the IWMP; and

d) implementing measures documented in the IWMP for earthworks.

This module applies to all earthworks within the Network Rail boundary, and slopes outside the boundary which may affect Network Rail infrastructure.

Purpose

This module describes the operational requirements for the management of earthworks during Adverse / Extreme Weather (A/EW). This procedure manages the control, 'weather - managing operational risk', mitigating the following risks:

• loss of track support and/or geometry;

• slope failure leading to loss of kinematic envelope and/or track geometry.
