Purpose.

This publication provides the tactics, techniques, and procedures for the Ground Surgical Team (GST). The GST provides the initial surgical and post-surgical critical care capability for the Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support (EMEDS) construct. The team can also operate independently in austere locations forward of an established medical treatment facility (MTF). This publication focuses on the team's stand-alone and crisis response capabilities. It provides a source document for developing standardized policies, operating procedures, training programs, and allowance standards. Operation plans and regional guidance provide more specific information that amplify and tailor the guidance contained in this publication.
