This document supplies guidance for the identification and development of standards and specifications using the International System of Units (SI), commonly known as the metric system.1 The guide does not cover metric practice, such as methods of converting and rounding, which is addressed in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)/ASTM SI 10, American National Standard for Metric Practice.
1 Since 1960, it has been known as the International System of Units (The International System of Units [SI], 8th ed., Bureau International des Poids et Mesures, 2006).
