Structural design against accidental loads
Organization: | DNVGL |

scope:
This recommended practice is meant to supplement structural design standards for offshore steel structures and gives recommendations on how to design a structure against accidental loads. The following main subjects are covered:
- design philosophy
- ship collisions
- dropped objects
- fire
- explosions
- unintended flooding.
Design against accidental loads are often carried out using advanced methods such as non-linear finite element analyses. Determination of structural capacity by non-linear analyses in general is described in DNVGL-RP-C208. This recommended practice describes more simplified and tailor-made methods for capacity assessments for accidental events.
