scope:

This report provides information on a stochastic model for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) farend crosstalk (FEXT) coupling channel in digital subscriber line (DSL) transmission systems operating on twisted-pair cables used in the North American subscriber loop environment. For a number of DSL systems, the FEXT coupling among them can be modeled as a MIMO system.

The model is derived using a statistical analysis of measurements of ingress energy into pairs of a cable from other pairs in the same cable. The data on which the model is based was gathered from measurements of actual loop plant.

Purpose

The purpose of this report is to provide the industry a tool for simulating the FEXT coupling among multiple DSL lines.

Application

This report is applicable to digital subscriber line transmission systems that operate on metallic twistedpair cables in the local loop environment.
