Organization: ATIS
Publication Date: 1 June 2008
Status: active
Page Count: 9
scope:

This guideline recommends minimum and optional data that a manufacturer should include in the MIB. The MIB is a database or file that would be stored in some electronic form on a plug-in card (e.g. EEPROM, disk, flash memory). The data elements specified in this document shall be accessible by anyone requiring access to the MIB on a plug-in card. This includes service providers, repair companies, suppliers and manufacturers.

This document does not specify the structure or how these data elements are stored in the MIB.

Purpose

This guideline provides a standard set of minimum and optional data elements that should be included in the Management Information Base (MIB). Service Providers can use this document to specify minimum requirements to their suppliers of plug-in cards which store this information. Manufacturers of these plug-in cards can use this document as a reference base for data elements to include in the MIB.

By having these data elements in the MIB, service providers can use this data for auto-discovery. Service providers use the data elements specified here for inventory and asset tracking of plug-in cards (i.e., Network Agents) installed and managed by a Network Management Station.

Note: ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) provides a similar document, ETSI TS 102 359, to this document which is completely compliant with this document.
