scope:
This Standard applies to the development and control of the Permitted Running Routes Schedules.
This standard details the development and control of the Permitted Running Routes Schedules for passenger, engineer's and miscellaneous vehicles permitted to run on LU. It shows where each type of vehicle is allowed to operate. If there is no mention of a type of rolling stock, then it is not allowed to operate.
Where passenger rolling stock is listed in the Permitted Running Routes Schedules as 'permitted to operate', it is compatible with the infrastructure for the route(s) shown.
Passenger rolling stock not listed in the Permitted Running Routes Schedules can operate if formal approval is given as shown in standard 1-476. The approval certification will show the lines and track sections on which these vehicles can operate.
The Permitted Running Routes Schedules include all non-passenger rolling stock approved by LU irrespective of who operates the rolling stock.
All other vehicles, not listed in the Permitted Running Routes Schedules can operate if formal approval is given as shown in Standard 1-476 for the introduction of new or modified rolling stock. The approval certification must show the lines and track sections on which these vehicles can operate. TransPlant maintain a list of all currently approved vehicles.
The following types of rolling stock are listed in the Permitted Running Routes Schedules:
locomotives;
wagons;
ex-passenger rolling stock now used as pilot vehicles, or used for maintaining the railway infrastructure;
mechanised vehicles;
tamping machines;
all types of passenger rolling stock operated by LU in regular service;
passenger rolling stock operated by Train Operating Companies (TOCs), and approved to operate by LU on a long term basis. These stocks are listed in the TOC's Railway Safety Case, or in the Track Agreement.
The Permitted Running Routes Schedules do not include:
engineers and miscellaneous vehicles not maintained in working order;
engineers and miscellaneous vehicles which are approved to operate for a small number of journeys or for a short period of time;
track trolleys;
passenger rolling stock which is imported to LU for short periods, e.g. enthusiasts' trains;
passenger rolling stock where movement can only be undertaken between pilot cars or locomotives, (e.g. operation when not under its own power).
The Permitted Running Routes Schedules includes all LU lines except Holborn to Aldwych (closed) on the Piccadilly Line for which a Certificate of Technical Conformance and an Operational Safety Plan are required.
The Permitted Running Routes Schedules includes the following Network Rail owned lines:
Kilburn High Road to Harrow and Wealdstone on the Bakerloo Line;
Gunnersbury to Richmond on the District Line.
This standard replaces 2-01202-026 A1. The Standard has been re formatted and renumbered. There were no technical changes.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to state the requirements for the control of The Permitted Running Route Schedules as described on the LU operational Standards intranet site for Passenger, Engineer's and Miscellaneous Vehicles".
