The present document specifies a profile of the Media Gateway Controller Protocol (MGCP) for IPCablecom 1.5 embedded clients. MGCP is a call signalling protocol for use in a centralized call control architecture, and assumes relatively simple client devices. The call signalling protocol is one layer of the overall IPCablecom 1.5 suite of documents and relies upon companion protocol documents to provide complete end-to-end IPCablecom functionality.

The present document describes an IPCablecom profile of an application programming interface (MGCI), and a corresponding protocol (MGCP) for controlling Voice-over-IP (VoIP) embedded clients external call control elements. The profile is referred to as the Network Call Signalling (NCS) Protocol.
