FOREWORD
This revised edition of the Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges was adopted November 1, 1945, at the Twenty-third Annual Meeting of the American Institure of Steel Construction.
The provisions of the revised Code now apply to structural steel for bridges as well as for buildings, and cover welded as well as riveted and bolted construction.
The Institute has a record of over twenty years of careful study and revision of the Code, since the original adoption of a Code of Standard Practive in 1924. Revisions have been made from time to time in order to bring the Code up to date and to incorporate changes suggested by improved modern practice.
The Code of Standard Practive for steel Structures other than Bridges, adopted in 1937 and revised in 1941, is supplanted.
