Section 1.1 reflects the scopes of the individual chapters within the 2012 edition of NFPA 99. This section also outlines the new and existing requirements for each chapter. The new chapter structure is as follows:

It should be noted that NFPA 99 covers facilities that treat humans. Freestanding veterinary facilities present many of the same hazards as hospitals, but they are not addressed in NFPA 99. However, hyperbaric chambers used for animals located within health care facilities are addressed in NFPA 99. NFPA 150, Standard on Fire and Life Safety in Animal Housing Facilities [6], addresses the hazards to animals and staff.
