Three grades of rail steel are covered, designated by the minimum hardness required of each. These are grades 220, 260 and 350HT, hitherto usually referred to as normal grade, grade A and MHT respectively.

The following rail sections are covered: 113A, 95RBH and UIC 54B.

All new pearlitic rails supplied to Railtrack or for use on Railtrack's infrastructure are required to meet all the requirements set out.

The information that the Purchaser needs to provide when seeking tenders is given in Appendix A.

PURPOSE

This specification defines Railtrack's requirements for the manufacture of pearlitic rails, the properties required of the rail and the methods to be used to ensure that a consistent product is delivered.
