This procedure applies to all ballasted track where the use of ballast gluing is proposed for the purpose of improving the lateral resistance of the track, including for the purpose of maintaining sub-standard clearances (for which dispensation has been agreed by the HMRI) between passing trains or between trains and structures.

This procedure does not address other applications of ballast gluing. However, these may be approved on a site-specific basis by Railtrack.

PURPOSE

This procedure sets out Railtrack's requirements for when ballast gluing is to be specified as a means of providing increased lateral restraint of the permanent way.
