scope:
This specification covers primary batteries which are inert until immersed in or filled with water for specified periods of activation and are discharged in air.
Batteries shall be of the following types, as specified (see 6.1):
Type BA-253/U. Type BA-259/AM. Type BA-292/AM. Type BA-316/AM.
The type designation of water-activated primary batteries shall be in the following form:
Primary batteries are identified by two-letter symbol "BA" followed by a hyphen.
The battery type number identifies the specific battery.
The installation indicator is composed of one or more letters preceded by a slant line, denoting the equipment with which the battery is associated, as specified herein.
/AM - Airborne meteorological equipment. /U - General utility (includes) two or more installation classes: airborne, shipboard, and ground.
