Slings covered by this specification are intended primarily for loading and discharging general cargo, including use in underway replenishment missions. The slings may also be used as flexible staging, save-all nets, lash down slings, safety, man overboard, and abandon ship nets. Cargo net slings used for handling ordnance, weapons, and explosives (that includes underway replenishment missions) require additional testing and quality assurance provisions. These nets are now covered by NAVSEA Drawing 53711-8410930.
